About the Suzuki Vitara ET
The first-generation Suzuki Vitara, known as the Escudo in Japan, redefined the 4x4 market by introducing a 'lifestyle' approach to off-roading. The 1.6 JLX trim offered a more comfortable interior compared to basic utility vehicles, featuring a lightweight ladder-frame chassis and a selectable four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case. While its short wheelbase makes for a bouncy ride on tarmac, it remains surprisingly capable off-road and has gained a cult following as a modern classic. Its simple mechanicals and iconic boxy styling have led to a recent increase in desirability among collectors of 1990s Japanese vehicles.
