About the Daihatsu Sportrak
The Daihatsu Sportrak, known as the Feroza or Rocky in other markets, was a compact SUV designed to offer genuine off-road capability in a city-friendly footprint. The 1.6 EX trim featured a 16-valve fuel-injected engine and a selectable four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case, making it surprisingly adept in the rough. Its distinctive styling included a removable rear hardtop, allowing for open-air driving, and a robust ladder-frame chassis. While on-road refinement was limited by its short wheelbase and leaf-sprung rear, it gained a reputation for mechanical durability and honest utility. Today, it is increasingly sought after as a charming and capable alternative to more mainstream 1990s off-roaders.
