About the Sunbeam Stiletto
The Sunbeam Stiletto was the premium, sportier derivative of the Hillman Imp, featuring a sleek fastback roofline borrowed from the Californian and the twin-carburettor engine from the Imp Sport. Its rear-mounted, all-alloy overhead-cam engine was derived from a Coventry Climax fire pump unit, canted at 45 degrees to fit under the rear deck. Distinguished by its quad-headlamp nose and standard black vinyl roof, the Stiletto offered a more upscale interior with a unique moulded dashboard and 'Amblair' breathable upholstery. It is celebrated by collectors for its sharp rack-and-pinion steering and nimble handling, though it remains a rare sight due to low production numbers and historical rust issues.
