About the Subaru XV GP
The first-generation Subaru XV (GP), marketed as the XV Crosstrek in North America, was a significant departure from the Impreza XV it replaced, featuring a substantial 220mm ground clearance and a more aggressive SUV aesthetic. Built on the Subaru Global Platform's predecessor, it retained the brand's signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and horizontally opposed Boxer engine, providing a lower centre of gravity than most rivals. While the Lineartronic CVT was tuned for efficiency, the car's real strength lay in its genuine off-road ability, outperforming almost every other compact crossover on loose surfaces. For collectors, it represents the beginning of Subaru's successful pivot toward the 'lifestyle' crossover market, though it remains more of a practical tool than a performance icon.

Subaru XV GP fun facts
- The XV's 220mm ground clearance was higher than many dedicated off-roaders, including the contemporary Land Rover Freelander 2.
- In North America, the 'XV' prefix was dropped for the 2016 model year, leaving it simply as the Subaru Crosstrek.
- The 2.0-litre FB20 engine was a clean-sheet design for this generation, focusing on a longer stroke to improve low-end torque and fuel economy.
