About the Subaru Impreza GD
The 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX, part of the GD generation's first major facelift known as the 'Blobeye', refined the formula that made the Impreza a global performance icon. Powered by the EJ205 2.0-litre boxer engine, it delivered a distinctive off-beat rumble and punchy mid-range torque through Subaru's signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. While the more extreme STI grabbed headlines, the standard WRX was praised for its accessibility, offering a more compliant ride and daily usability without sacrificing its rally-bred DNA. Today, original, unmolested examples are increasingly sought after by collectors as the generation that defined Subaru's peak era in the World Rally Championship.

Subaru Impreza GD fun facts
- The 2004 facelift was designed by Andreas Zapatinas, who was tasked with replacing the controversial 'Bugeye' look with a more aggressive, aerodynamic front end.
- While the US market received a 2.5-litre engine in the STI for 2004, the standard WRX globally retained the 2.0-litre EJ20 unit until the 2006 'Hawkeye' update.
- The functional hood scoop is not just for show; it feeds air directly into the top-mounted intercooler, a layout chosen to keep the turbo plumbing short for better response.
