About the Skoda 1000 MB
The 1000 MB (Mladá Boleslav) represented a radical shift for Škoda, moving from a front-engined, body-on-frame design to a modern rear-engined monocoque layout. It featured a world-first mass-produced aluminium die-cast engine block and gearbox casing, showcasing advanced Czechoslovakian engineering. Despite its modest output, the car was praised for its reliability and clever interior packaging, including seats that could be folded into a bed. It laid the technical foundation for all Škoda models until the arrival of the Favorit in the late 1980s.
