About the Fiat 850

Launched in 1964, the Fiat 850 was a significant evolution of the 600, featuring a larger 843cc engine and a more modern, squared-off body designed by Dante Giacosa. The 'Super' trim was the more powerful of the two initial saloon offerings, distinguished by a higher compression ratio that provided a modest boost over the 'Normale' variant. While technically simple with its rear-mounted engine and swing-arm suspension, it was praised for its clever packaging and nimble handling. It served as the backbone of Italian motoring in the 1960s before being replaced by the front-wheel-drive 127.
