About the SEAT 1500
The SEAT 1500 was the definitive Spanish luxury saloon of the 1960s, serving as the preferred transport for government officials, wealthy businessmen and the nation's taxi fleets. Based on the Italian Fiat 2300 body but powered by the more economical 1.5-litre engine from the Fiat 1500, it offered American-inspired styling with prominent tailfins and extensive chrome. It was celebrated for its robust build quality and a spacious interior that could officially accommodate six passengers thanks to a front bench seat. While not fast, its comfortable ride and status as a 'chauffeur-driven' car made it a cornerstone of Spain's automotive history during the 'Spanish Miracle' economic boom.

SEAT 1500 fun facts
- The 1500 was so ubiquitous as a taxi in Madrid and Barcelona that it became an inseparable part of the Spanish urban landscape for over two decades.
- Early models are known as 'Monofaro' (single headlight), while the 1969 update introduced the 'Bifaro' (twin headlight) look similar to the Fiat 2300.
- Despite its luxury positioning, the 1.5-litre engine was chosen to suit the Spanish market's tax brackets and fuel costs, rather than the Italian original's six-cylinder units.
