About the Saab 96

The Saab 96 is a landmark of Scandinavian design, evolving from the teardrop-shaped 92 into a robust, front-wheel-drive rally legend. In 1967, Saab replaced its charismatic but aging two-stroke triple with a Ford-sourced 1.5-litre V4, significantly improving reliability and low-end torque for everyday use. The 1972 model features the refined 'long-nose' styling and was the first car to offer electrically heated seats as a factory option. Renowned for its exceptional traction in snow and its unique freewheel transmission, the 96 remains a cult favourite for its quirky engineering and immense competition pedigree.
