About the RUF BTR
Introduced in 1983, the BTR (Gruppe B Turbo RUF) was the first model to carry a RUF-specific VIN after the company was granted manufacturer status. Based on the Porsche 930, RUF bored the engine to 3.4 litres and added a bespoke intercooler and five-speed gearbox, solving the factory car's four-speed limitation. It was famously crowned the 'World's Fastest Car' by Road & Track in 1984, reaching 186.2 mph. Collectors prize the BTR for its raw, analogue delivery and its historical significance as the foundation of RUF's reputation for engineering excellence.

RUF BTR rarity in CarSpot
The RUF BTR is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
RUF BTR fun facts
- The BTR was available in both the wide 'Turbo' body and a narrow-body configuration, the latter being preferred by Alois Ruf for its superior aerodynamics.
- While RUF built roughly 20 to 30 cars from bare chassis, they also performed an unknown number of BTR conversions on customer-supplied Porsche 930s and Carrera 3.2s.
- The BTR's custom five-speed gearbox was a major selling point, as Porsche did not offer a five-speed manual for the 911 Turbo until 1989.
