About the Rover Metro R6

The R6 generation Rover Metro, launched in 1990, was a comprehensive re-engineering of the original 1980 Austin Metro. It introduced the advanced K-Series engine and a linked Hydragas suspension system, which provided a level of ride comfort and handling agility that shamed many larger cars. The 1.1 C served as the entry-level model, featuring a four-speed gearbox and basic trim, yet it retained the excellent chassis dynamics of the range. While rust and a poor Euro NCAP showing eventually ended its run, the R6 is remembered as one of British Leyland's most successful engineering updates.
