About the Renault Monasix
Introduced at the 1927 Paris Motor Show, the Renault Monasix was a pioneering attempt to bring six-cylinder refinement to the compact family car market. Its 1.5-litre engine was one of the smallest straight-sixes of the era, though it was often criticised for being underpowered relative to the car's weight. Despite this, its mechanical reliability and smooth operation made it a favourite for commercial use, with over 5,000 units serving as Parisian taxis well into the 1960s. Early RY models are distinguished by their 'wind-cutter' front end with the radiator positioned behind the engine, a signature Renault design of the 1920s.

Renault Monasix fun facts
- The Monasix was so durable that the last examples in the Parisian taxi fleet were not retired until 1962, 30 years after production ended.
- Early models lacked a conventional front grille because the radiator was located behind the engine, requiring side louvres on the bonnet for cooling.
- A more luxurious version called the Monastella was launched in 1928, featuring higher-quality interior trim and the 'Stella' star badge.
