About the Renault Laguna Mk2
The second-generation Renault Laguna, launched in late 2000, was a pioneer in automotive safety and technology for the mass market. It famously replaced the traditional ignition key with the 'Renault Card' keyless entry and ignition system, a novelty for a family hatchback at the time. The 1.9 dCi engine was the mainstay of the range, offering a balance of decent torque and impressive fuel economy for long-distance cruising. While it was praised for its comfort and equipment levels, the Mk2 Laguna later gained a reputation for complex electronic reliability issues.
