About the Renault Clio RS Mk2
The 172 Cup is a stripped-out, lightweight special of the Phase 2 Clio Renaultsport, developed primarily for Group N rally homologation. To save 89kg over the standard 172, Renault removed the air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, side airbags, and sound deadening, while fitting thinner window glass and a lightweight rear bench. The chassis was further enhanced with a 25mm wider front track, revised castor angles, and stiffer suspension, making it one of the most agile hot hatches of its era. Finished almost exclusively in Mondial Blue, it is celebrated by collectors for its purity and unassisted steering feel.
