About the Renault 5 Turbo
The Renault 5 Turbo 2 was the more production-friendly successor to the original Turbo 1, designed to capitalise on Renault's rallying success. While it swapped the exotic aluminium body panels of its predecessor for steel to reduce costs, it retained the radical mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout that defined the model. The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine is mounted where the rear seats would normally be, providing excellent balance but notorious turbo lag. Its iconic boxy flares and aggressive stance make it one of the most recognisable 'homologation specials' of the 1980s, offering a raw and challenging driving experience that remains highly coveted by collectors.
