About the Ford Escort RS1600 Mk1
The Escort RS1600 was the first car to wear the iconic RS badge, developed by Ford's Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) to dominate international rallying. It features the legendary Cosworth-designed BDA (Belt Drive, Type A) engine, a 16-valve twin-cam unit derived from Formula 2 technology. Built on the strengthened 'Type 49' bodyshell, it offered a raw, high-revving driving experience that secured its place in motorsport history with victories in the RAC and Safari Rallies. Today, it is one of the most coveted fast Fords, prized for its purity and competition pedigree.
