About the Renault 21
The Renault 21 TXI was introduced during the Phase II facelift as a high-specification naturally aspirated alternative to the flagship Turbo. It featured a unique 12-valve version of the 2.0-litre 'Douvrin' engine, producing a healthy 140 PS, and shared the Turbo's aggressive five-spoke alloy wheels and subtle body kit. While the Turbo grabbed the headlines, the TXI offered a more linear power delivery and refined cruising ability, making it a popular choice for executive travel in the early 1990s. Today, it is a rare sight on UK roads, valued by enthusiasts for its Giugiaro-penned lines and unusual longitudinal engine layout.

Renault 21 fun facts
- The Renault 21 used two different engine layouts: smaller engines were mounted transversely, while the 2.0-litre units like the TXI were mounted longitudinally.
- The TXI's 12-valve engine was a rarity for the time, using three valves per cylinder to improve breathing without the complexity of a full 16-valve head.
- Despite its French origins, the Renault 21 was designed by the legendary Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign.
