About the Ford Scorpio Mk1
Launched in 1985 as the successor to the Granada, the Scorpio Mk1 represented Ford's most ambitious attempt to compete with German executive brands. It was notable for being the first mass-produced car in Europe to feature anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard across the entire range. The 2.9-litre Cologne V6 engine provided smooth, effortless cruising, though the car was always biased towards comfort and refinement rather than outright sporting agility. While it sold well in the UK, its futuristic 'jelly-mould' styling was initially controversial for the conservative executive market.
