About the Proton Wira
The Proton Wira, meaning 'hero' in Malay, was the cornerstone of Malaysia's automotive industry for over a decade. Based on the fourth-generation Mitsubishi Lancer, it offered proven Japanese mechanicals with a unique Proton-designed interior and exterior styling. By 2002, the Wira benefited from suspension tuning by Lotus, which significantly improved its handling characteristics compared to earlier models. While often overlooked in the UK market as a budget alternative, it remains a cult icon in Southeast Asia for its durability and ease of maintenance.
