About the Proton Satria GTi
The Satria GTi was Proton's first serious attempt at a performance car, leveraging their acquisition of Lotus to transform a humble Mitsubishi Mirage-based hatchback. Lotus engineers overhauled the chassis with revised dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars, resulting in handling that punchy contemporary reviews compared to the Peugeot 306 GTi-6. Visually, it is defined by its industrial-style exposed-bolt wheel arches, square dual-exit exhausts, and Recaro interior. While the Mitsubishi-sourced 4G93 engine lacked the ultimate fire of its European rivals, the 'Handling by Lotus' badge was no marketing gimmick, offering genuine driver engagement.
