About the Porsche 924 924 S
The 924 S was introduced to bridge the gap between the entry-level 924 and the more muscular 944, finally replacing the long-serving Audi-sourced 2.0-litre engine with Porsche's own 2.5-litre unit. While the narrow bodywork remained largely unchanged, the 'S' model gained the 944's superior brakes, five-lug hubs and suspension components. For the 1987 model year, the engine was tuned to 150 hp, providing a significant performance boost over the base 924 while remaining lighter and more aerodynamic than the 944. It is widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of the best-handling transaxle Porsches due to its excellent balance and reduced weight.
