About the Ford Sierra XR4i
Launched in 1983 as the performance flagship of the Sierra range, the XR4i was a bold statement of Ford's aerodynamic future. It is instantly recognisable by its unique 'six-light' three-door bodyshell—featuring an additional pillar and window—and a distinctive biplane rear spoiler designed to reduce lift. Under the bonnet sits the 2.8-litre Cologne V6 from the Capri, providing a smooth, torquey delivery that suited its role as a high-speed cruiser rather than a raw sports car. While initially controversial for its 'jelly mould' styling, it paved the way for the legendary RS Cosworth and remains a significant piece of 1980s Ford history.
