About the Peugeot Type 81

The Peugeot Type 81 was a significant evolution for the French marque, moving away from horse-drawn carriage influences toward a modern automotive layout. Introduced in 1906, it featured a front-mounted engine under a proper bonnet and a lowered chassis for improved stability. The 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine was relatively advanced for its time, paired with a four-speed gearbox that allowed the 'B' variant to reach nearly 90 km/h. As a large, comfortable tourer, it was often bodied as a Double Phaéton or a closed-top limousine, representing the luxury end of Peugeot's early 20th-century catalogue.
