About the Opel Monza
The Vauxhall Monza, a badge-engineered version of the Opel Monza, served as the brand's flagship grand tourer in the early 1980s. Based on the Senator platform, it featured a sophisticated independent rear suspension and a smooth 3.0-litre fuel-injected straight-six engine that made it one of the fastest cars in the GM Europe stable. While the Vauxhall Royale Coupé badge was used initially, the Monza nameplate eventually took over in the UK market, offering a blend of executive luxury and high-speed stability. Its distinctive fastback silhouette and large glass area provided a spacious cabin that could genuinely accommodate four adults, distinguishing it from more cramped rivals like the BMW 6 Series.
