About the Oldsmobile Toronado
The fourth-generation Toronado represented a radical departure for Oldsmobile, significantly downsizing the chassis to improve fuel efficiency and handling. For the 1990 model year, the car received a substantial facelift, adding 12 inches to its length to address criticisms of its previously diminutive appearance. It is powered by the reliable Buick-derived 3800 V6 engine, providing smooth if not blistering performance. The interior was notable for its early adoption of high-tech features, including the optional Graphic Control Center, one of the first touchscreen interfaces in a production car.

Oldsmobile Toronado fun facts
- The 1990 facelift was a direct response to poor sales, as customers felt the 1986-1989 models looked too similar to the cheaper Buick Somerset.
- The Toronado's 'Visual Information Center' used a monochrome CRT touchscreen to control radio, climate, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Despite the 1990 styling refresh, production ended just two years later as the market shifted away from traditional personal luxury coupés.
