About the Mitsubishi Debonair

The second-generation Mitsubishi Debonair, known as the Debonair V, marked a radical departure for the nameplate by switching to a front-wheel-drive platform shared with the Galant. Developed in partnership with Hyundai to provide a flagship for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, it introduced Mitsubishi's first V6 engine family, the 'Cyclone'. While its upright, angular styling was considered conservative even at launch, it offered a spacious, tech-heavy cabin designed to transport high-level Mitsubishi executives. Though it struggled against the Toyota Crown in Japan, its legacy was cemented as the original blueprint for the long-running Hyundai Grandeur.
