About the Cadillac Calais
The Cadillac Calais was introduced in 1965 to replace the Series 62 as the marque's entry-level offering, though it shared the same 129.5-inch wheelbase and 429 cubic-inch V8 as the more expensive DeVille. While it lacked the standard power windows and seats found in its siblings, it offered the same prestigious styling and smooth 'Cloud-Ride' suspension. The 1965 model year was significant for its new perimeter frame and the shift from tailfins to a sleek, vertical tail-light design. It remains a more accessible way to experience the height of General Motors' mid-sixties engineering and presence.
