About the Nissan Quest V40
The first-generation Nissan Quest (V40) was the result of a landmark joint venture between Nissan and Ford, designed to challenge Chrysler's dominance in the North American minivan market. While Ford handled final assembly in Ohio, Nissan provided the powertrain and major body stampings, resulting in a vehicle that felt more car-like than its domestic rivals. It was powered by the robust VG30E V6 engine, which was specifically modified at Ford's request to be a non-interference design for improved reliability. Though it lacked a driver-side sliding door, its flexible seating and refined handling made it a popular choice for families throughout the 1990s.

Nissan Quest V40 fun facts
- Ford requested that Nissan modify the VG30E engine to a non-interference design so that a timing belt failure would not cause catastrophic engine damage.
- The Quest was sold in Japan as a left-hand drive import because it lacked a left-side rear door, making a right-hand drive conversion impractical for the Japanese market.
- Despite being a Nissan, the first-generation Quest was actually assembled by Ford at their Ohio Assembly plant alongside its twin, the Mercury Villager.
