About the MG 1300

The MG 1300 was the performance-oriented variant of the BMC ADO16 family, featuring a twin-carburettor 1275cc A-Series engine shared with the Mini Cooper S. While the Austin and Morris versions were aimed at the masses, the MG offered a more luxurious cabin with a wood-veneer dashboard and a full suite of round Smiths gauges. Its Hydrolastic suspension provided a sophisticated ride that balanced comfort with the sharp handling characteristic of Alec Issigonis's front-wheel-drive designs. By 1970, the Mk II had become the definitive version, distinguished by its two-door body and revised interior. It remains a highly sought-after classic for those seeking Mini-like dynamics in a more refined, practical package.
