About the Mercury Grand Marquis

The fourth-generation Grand Marquis arrived for 2003 as a heavily re-engineered version of Mercury's body-on-frame Panther saloon, built at St. Thomas Assembly in Ontario alongside the Ford Crown Victoria. It gained a hydroformed, fully boxed frame, rack-and-pinion steering in place of recirculating ball, coil-over front dampers and rear shock absorbers mounted outboard of the frame rails, while keeping rear-wheel drive and a six-seat cabin. The LS Premium sat above the base GS and used the 4.6-litre SOHC Modular V8, rated at 224 hp and 272 lb ft with a single exhaust, driving through a four-speed automatic. A dual-exhaust 239 hp version came with the LSE and the Handling Package, the GS was dropped after 2008, and the last Grand Marquis, built on 4 January 2011, was also the last Mercury.
