About the Mercury Monterey
The 1959 Mercury Monterey represented a significant departure from the ornate styling of the late 1950s, moving toward the leaner, flatter lines that would define the early 1960s. This fourth-generation model was built on a unique chassis, distinct from Ford for the first time in nearly two decades, and featured a massive wraparound windshield for improved visibility. The 6.3-litre (383 cubic-inch) Marauder V8 was a member of the MEL engine family, providing effortless torque for a smooth, boulevard-cruising experience. Collectors prize the 'Cruiser' hardtop models for their distinctive compound-curved rear windows and space-age dashboard layouts.
