About the Mercedes-Benz SL W113
The 280 SL represents the final and most refined iteration of the W113 series, succeeding the 230 and 250 models with a larger, more powerful 2.8-litre M130 engine. Designed by Paul Bracq, its nickname 'Pagoda' derives from the distinctive concave shape of its removable hardtop, a safety-conscious design that also allowed for large windows and excellent visibility. While earlier models were considered sharper sports cars, the 280 SL leaned into its role as a sophisticated grand tourer, featuring four-wheel disc brakes and improved cabin refinement. It remains one of the most usable and sought-after classic Mercedes-Benz models due to its exceptional build quality and effortless style.
