About the Mercedes-Benz SL R231
The 2016 facelift of the R231-generation SL 400 introduced significant mechanical and aesthetic updates, most notably the adoption of the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0-litre biturbo V6 was tuned to produce 367 PS, providing a more spirited performance that narrowed the gap to the V8 models. Its revised front end, inspired by the AMG GT, gave the roadster a sharper appearance, while the interior remained a benchmark for two-seat luxury. As a grand tourer, it excels with its folding 'Vario-roof' and refined ride, though it prioritises comfort over the raw agility of its Porsche rivals.
