About the Mercedes-AMG GT C192
The second-generation AMG GT (C192) marks a significant shift in philosophy, moving from a dedicated two-seater transaxle sports car to a more versatile 2+2 grand tourer. Sharing its MSA platform with the R232 SL, it introduces standard fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and active rear-axle steering to manage its increased dimensions and weight. The handcrafted M177 4.0-litre V8 remains the heart of the car, now featuring active aerodynamics and semi-active roll stabilisation to maintain the sharp handling expected of the AMG flagship. It represents a more rounded rival to the Porsche 911 Turbo, prioritising everyday usability without sacrificing its brutal acceleration.

Mercedes-AMG GT C192 fun facts
- Unlike its predecessor, the C192 generation features a 2+2 seating layout, though the rear seats are officially recommended only for passengers under five feet tall.
- The car uses an 'active air skin' underbody made of carbon fibre that lowers by 40mm at speeds over 50 mph to create a Venturi effect, sucking the car to the road.
- The 9-speed MCT transmission replaces a traditional torque converter with a wet start-off clutch to reduce weight and improve response during aggressive shifts.
