About the Mazda RX-2
Introduced in 1970 as the rotary-powered version of the Capella, the RX-2 was a pivotal model that established Mazda's reputation for high-performance Wankel engines in a practical package. Its 12A engine was lauded for its smoothness and high-revving nature, offering performance that rivalled European sports saloons like the BMW 2002. While it suffered from high fuel consumption, its success in series production racing, particularly at Bathurst, cemented its cult status. Today, original, unmodified examples are increasingly rare and highly sought after by Japanese classic enthusiasts.
