About the Maserati Mexico
Introduced at the 1966 Paris Motor Show, the Maserati Mexico was a refined four-seater grand tourer designed by Vignale. It was based on a shortened Quattroporte chassis and served as a more practical, understated alternative to the Ghibli. The Mexico was notably the first production Maserati to feature servo-assisted ventilated disc brakes on all four wheels. While the 4.7-litre version offered more power, the 4.2-litre variant was the more popular choice for those seeking a sophisticated long-distance cruiser with a 'civilised' version of Maserati's racing V8.

Maserati Mexico rarity in CarSpot
The Maserati Mexico is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Maserati Mexico fun facts
- The model was named 'Mexico' because the prototype was a rebodied 5000 GT originally owned by Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos.
- By coincidence, John Surtees won the 1966 Mexican Grand Prix in a Cooper-Maserati just as the production car was being launched.
- Of the 485 units produced, 305 were fitted with the 4.2-litre engine, making it the most common variant.
