About the Duesenberg Model J

The Model J was launched before the Wall Street Crash as an uncompromising American luxury chassis, with bodies commissioned from independent coachbuilders. Its twin-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder straight-eight made extraordinary power for the period. Bodywork, weight and character differ markedly between surviving cars; even a closed example has effortless long-legged performance, while its unsynchronised gearbox asks for patience. The Great Depression curtailed the ambitions behind it.
