About the LTI TX1
Launched in 1997 to replace the ageing Austin FX4, the LTI TX1 was designed from the ground up as a dedicated hackney carriage. It retained the classic silhouette and tight 25-foot turning circle required by London's Public Carriage Office while introducing modern amenities like a wheelchair ramp and headrests. The 2.7-litre Nissan diesel engine was chosen for its legendary durability, often covering hundreds of thousands of miles in city traffic. While utilitarian, its distinctive face and functional interior made it a global symbol of British transport.
