About the Land Rover Discovery L319 (Discovery 3)
The Discovery 3, known as the LR3 in North America, represented a radical departure for Land Rover, moving from a live-axle setup to a sophisticated Integrated Body Frame architecture. It introduced the pioneering Terrain Response system, allowing drivers to optimise the vehicle's electronics and differentials for various surfaces via a simple rotary dial. The 2.7-litre TDV6 engine, developed in partnership with PSA, provided the refinement and torque necessary for both heavy towing and long-distance cruising. Despite its weight, the combination of air suspension and precise steering made it surprisingly capable on-road while remaining peerless in its class off-road.
