About the Lancia Artena
Introduced at the 1931 Paris Motor Show alongside the V8 Astura, the Lancia Artena was the four-cylinder successor to the legendary Lambda. While it moved away from the Lambda's monocoque to a more conventional chassis to accommodate bespoke coachwork, it retained Lancia's signature sliding-pillar front suspension. The 1.9-litre V4 engine was uniquely suspended on leaf springs and Silentbloc bushings to eliminate vibrations, a solution so effective it rivalled the smoothness of contemporary six-cylinder cars. Production spanned four series, including a wartime revival for military use, cementing its reputation for reliability and engineering excellence.

Lancia Artena fun facts
- The Artena was named after an ancient town of the Volsci people, breaking Lancia's long-standing tradition of using Greek letters for model names.
- Its engine mounting system was so advanced that contemporary testers often mistook the four-cylinder powerplant for a much larger six or eight-cylinder engine.
- During WWII, the Italian military requested the Artena be put back into production specifically for use as high-ranking staff cars and ambulances.
