About the Lancia Alfa
The Lancia Alfa, originally designated as the Tipo 51, was the first production vehicle from Vincenzo Lancia's eponymous firm. Unveiled at the 1908 Turin Motor Show, it established Lancia's reputation for engineering excellence with a high-revving engine and a lightweight chassis that outperformed many larger contemporaries. The engine featured two twin-cylinder blocks and a four-speed gearbox, a sophisticated arrangement for the era. While most were sold as bare chassis to be bodied by coachbuilders, the model's reliability and 56 mph top speed made it a commercial success across Europe and the United States.

Lancia Alfa rarity in CarSpot
The Lancia Alfa is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Lancia Alfa fun facts
- The 'Alfa' name was applied retroactively in 1919 when Lancia decided to use the Greek alphabet for its model nomenclature.
- Vincenzo Lancia's brother Giovanni, a literature teacher, was the one who suggested using Greek letters to name the cars.
- The chassis was notably light for its time, weighing just 700 kg, which allowed it to reach speeds that critics initially deemed 'too fast' for safety.
