About the Jeep Cherokee KJ
The KJ-generation Cherokee, known as the Liberty in North America, marked a significant shift for Jeep by introducing independent front suspension to the model line. While controversial among purists, it offered vastly improved on-road manners without sacrificing the brand's signature off-road capability, aided by the Command-Trac or Selec-Trac 4WD systems. The 2.8-litre CRD (Common Rail Diesel) engine, sourced from VM Motori, was a standout for its high torque output, making it a preferred choice for towing and green-laning. Though its rounded 'retro' styling was a departure from the boxy XJ, the KJ remains a capable and affordable entry point into Jeep ownership.
