About the Jaguar XJ X308
The X308 generation marked a significant milestone for Jaguar, replacing the long-running straight-six and V12 engines with the all-new AJ-V8. While the exterior styling remained a subtle evolution of the retro-inspired X300, the interior was thoroughly modernised with a new dashboard and improved ergonomics. The 3.2-litre variant served as the entry point to the range, offering a smooth and refined driving experience that prioritised comfort over outright pace. As the last steel-bodied XJ to feature the traditional low-slung profile, it is increasingly sought after by collectors for its classic aesthetic and improved reliability over earlier V8 units.

Jaguar XJ X308 fun facts
- The X308 was the first Jaguar XJ to be offered exclusively with V8 power, ending a 29-year history of straight-six engines in the model.
- Early AJ-V8 engines used Nikasil cylinder liners which could fail due to high-sulphur fuel, though most surviving examples have had these replaced with steel liners.
- Despite the 'XJ8' badging used in most markets, the car was internally known as the X308 to distinguish it from its X300 predecessor.
