About the Jaguar 420
Introduced at the 1966 London Motor Show, the Jaguar 420 was developed as a more powerful and refined alternative to the S-Type, bridging the gap to the flagship Mark X. It featured a unique 'four-eyed' front end inspired by the Mark X and was powered by the 4.2-litre version of the legendary XK engine. The model utilised the sophisticated independent rear suspension from the E-Type, providing a superior balance of ride comfort and handling for a luxury saloon of the era. Though production was relatively short due to the arrival of the XJ6, the 420 remains highly regarded for its blend of classic styling and improved mechanical reliability.
