About the Jaguar 340

The Jaguar 340 was introduced in 1967 as a rebadged and updated version of the 3.4-litre Mark 2, serving as a bridge until the launch of the XJ6. It is distinguished by slimmer 'S-Type' bumpers and the adoption of Ambla synthetic upholstery, though it retained the iconic XK straight-six engine. The 340 benefited from a 'straight-port' cylinder head similar to that of the E-Type, which improved performance over earlier 3.4-litre models. As the final iteration of the classic Jaguar compact saloon, it offers a more accessible entry point into Mark 2 ownership while maintaining the same 'Grace, Space, Pace' ethos.

Jaguar 340 fun facts

  • The 340 was only produced for about a year before being phased out for the new XJ6, making it significantly rarer than the original Mark 2.
  • To reduce costs, Jaguar replaced the traditional leather interior with 'Ambla' vinyl and removed the rear picnic tables as standard equipment.
  • Despite being a 'budget' model, the 340's straight-port head meant it was actually faster than many earlier 3.4-litre Mark 2s.
