About the Isuzu Bighorn
The second-generation Isuzu Bighorn, known internationally as the Trooper, represents the peak of Isuzu's 4x4 engineering. The 3.1-litre 4JG2-T turbodiesel engine was a staple of the Japanese domestic market, favoured for its low-end torque and mechanical simplicity compared to the later common-rail units. While the Bighorn shared its chassis with luxury-oriented versions like the 'Handling by Lotus', the 3.1 TD remained the pragmatic choice for overlanders. Its robust body-on-frame construction and dual-range transfer case made it a formidable off-roader, though it was equally noted for its surprisingly refined highway manners for the era.
