About the Hyundai S-Coupe

The Hyundai S-Coupe (or Scoupe) was a two-door coupé based on the Excel, designed to offer sporty styling at an entry-level price point. The 1994 model features the 'Alpha' engine, which was the first power plant designed entirely in-house by Hyundai, marking a significant milestone for the South Korean industry. While not a performance powerhouse, its lightweight construction and Lotus-tuned suspension provided respectable handling for its class. It remains a rare sight today, representing the early stages of Hyundai's global expansion and engineering independence.
