About the Hyundai Matrix
The Hyundai Matrix, known as the Lavita in its home market, was a compact MPV designed to offer maximum interior space within a small footprint. Its most notable feature is the exterior styling by Pininfarina, which includes a distinctive stepped waistline and a large glasshouse for excellent visibility. Mechanically based on the Elantra, it prioritised utility over performance, featuring a central instrument cluster and numerous storage cubbies. While it never achieved cult status, it remains a testament to Hyundai's early 2000s strategy of partnering with European design houses to appeal to global markets.

Hyundai Matrix fun facts
- The car's distinctive exterior design was penned by the legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, whose logo appears on the C-pillar.
- Despite its tall MPV stance, the Matrix was built on the same platform as the third-generation Hyundai Elantra (XD).
- The instrument cluster is located in the centre of the dashboard rather than behind the steering wheel, a common design trend for MPVs of that era.
