About the Hummer H1
The Hummer H1 is the civilian version of the M998 Humvee, famously brought to the mass market following the Gulf War and advocacy by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Built by AM General, it features a unique wide-track chassis with portal axles and inboard brakes, providing 16 inches of ground clearance. The 6.5-litre turbo diesel variant, introduced in 1996, addressed the lack of power in earlier naturally aspirated models, though it remains a vehicle focused on torque and terrain rather than speed. Its massive footprint and spartan, military-derived interior make it a singular presence in any collection.

Hummer H1 fun facts
- The H1's extreme width was designed to allow it to follow in the tracks left by M1 Abrams tanks.
- It features a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) that allows the driver to inflate or deflate the tyres from the cabin to suit different terrains.
- Despite its huge exterior dimensions, the interior only seats four people because the massive drivetrain is housed in a central tunnel between the seats.
