About the Vauxhall Monterey
Launched in 1994, the Vauxhall Monterey was a badge-engineered version of the second-generation Isuzu Trooper, intended to compete with the Land Rover Discovery. It was positioned as a more premium offering than the smaller Frontera, targeting executive buyers with a high level of standard equipment including ABS and electric windows. The 3.1-litre turbodiesel engine, sourced from Isuzu, was praised for its reliability and low-end torque, though it lacked the refinement of its European rivals. Despite its capability, the Monterey suffered from slow sales in the UK and was eventually discontinued in early 1999.
